A reminder for Thanksgiving

“Blessed are those who can give without remembering and receive without forgetting”
Thanksgiving Day is the most important holiday for the recovering addict, because gratitude is the greatest gift of sobriety. Living a life in addiction is living a life of never enough. There was never enough love, never enough friends, and surely never enough alcohol or drugs to fill the void.
And yet, once the sun shines on a new way of living, a new hope is born. First with a friend and then with a mentor or a teacher to help navigate the ups and downs that come with living life in sobriety. A grateful heart is created.
Each newcomer is helped by the one that comes before. A great chain of helping hands offers friendship and support and create a community of family and friends. And for that we are truly grateful.
“For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything that goodness sends.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
Happy Thanksgiving.
