Clearing the 'chametz' in my life

March 29, 2018

Passover always seems to catch me by surprise.  It is only a day away!  And I have so much work to do to clear out the ‘chametz’ in my life.  As an addict I could never give up the things that made me a slave.  It wasn’t just the drugs or the alcohol, although they didn’t help.  The problem was much for fundamental.  I couldn’t help but be a slave to the image I had of myself.  The image I wanted you to believe.

The purpose of the Passover Seder is to remember the Israelites who were in bondage as slaves to Pharaoh in the land of Egypt. How many of us have been a slave to our addiction or to something or someone? Whether it be drugs, alcohol, smoking, sex, shopping, gambling… Or perhaps other destructive human emotions like: hatred, bitterness, jealousy, greed, or anger.

These are all examples of what turns a Human Being into a Slave.

Pharaoh needed 10 plagues to break him to a point that he finally granted freedom to the slaves. We as humans sometimes need to experience a brokenness in our hearts.  Bill Wilson, founder of AA noticed that people who came to an acceptance of personal responsibility and a brokenness of their situation could surrender and make their lives new.

With a belief that God can do for the slave, what the slave could not do for themselves.

Give freedom.
